Ollantaytambo, Peru

Ollantaytambo, Peru
That's me posing under the remains of a doorway at the Ollantaytambo ruin site. Ollantaytambo is a semi-large site with interesting views of the Sacred Valley. The hike to the top of the site can be a bit strenuous for the less active types. In this picture you can see to the right some of the typical steep terraces found at many Incan cities. Ollantaytambo was a fortress where the Conquistadors lost a major battle; one of the few they lost. Not only was Ollantaytambo used as a fortress, it also was a temple for worship.
